Demonstrating Wisdom

Artwork for Wise Counsel for Troubled Times

Theirs was no fairy tale. She wasn’t a damsel in distress; she needed no knight in shining armor, astride a charging steed to save her. In truth, she was the hero of the story that became her life, rescuing a would-be king from an act of folly that would have soiled his reputation and reign forever. Her weapon wasn’t a sword or lance; it was wisdom. The motto on her crest read:

Patience can persuade a prince,
and soft speech can break bones. (Proverbs 25:15)

This was the story of David and Abigail—of a strong man who admired a strong woman; a wise man who listened to an even wiser woman. This can be our story too, if we’re wise enough to follow her example and adopt her motto.
