Dear friend,

“When you come to a fork in the road, take it!”

I smile every time I think of that saying by the late baseball great Yogi Berra. Although amusing, it reminds me we are all travellers journeying through this life.

We each have a path to walk and we are all on different paths. Some experience prosperity and ease as they barrel down the smooth freeway of their life. Everything seems to be handed to them. Others navigate a bumpy back road full of the potholes of deprivation, suffering, and hardship.

At times we may put life on cruise control. We are so busy that life whizzes by so fast we scarcely have time to enjoy the scenery. Other times life sputters along in gridlock. Every inch is slow and tedious.

Sometimes our path seems clear and wide open like a highway while other times it is narrow, uncertain, and not clearly marked. The aging Apostle Paul made a statement to that effect as he said goodbye to a group of friends choking back tears because they would never see him again, “And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what awaits me” (Acts 20:22, emphasis added).

Going...yet not knowing. That’s the Christian life in a nutshell, isn’t it? Our Lord leads us along many uncertain pathways. But we always have this assurance as we move along, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105). We trust and step out facing a future as uncertain as God’s Word is sure.

Did you catch that last phrase? The future is as uncertain as God’s Word is sure. And that’s why what we do at Insight for Living Canada in sharing God’s Word is so important and why your support is essential. In the midst of all the uncertainties on life’s pathway God’s Word stands out as something you and I can rely on as certain.

Peter wrote about the reliability of Scripture to believers struggling with uncertainties of life, “We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19 NIV, emphasis added).

I’m grateful for the encouraging letters and donations from supporters like you who walk the path beside us. They tell of how God’s Word strengthens them and remind me we truly are partners in ministry travelling this road together. We rely on your support to keep moving ahead.

Can I count on your encouraging gift this month?

Yogi Berra also said, "You got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." One of the wonderful things about being followers of Jesus is that we can trust Him to guide us with His sure Word. We know where we are going and have the certainty our path will take us to our destination—a home in heaven with our Lord.

Till then we work together as partners in ministry sharing God’s Word with other pilgrims on their journey.

Grateful to travel with you,

Steve Johnson
