Packing for the Trip of a Lifetime

A few months ago, Chuck and Cynthia were shocked to learn that their friend, Barb Madison, had been diagnosed with cancer and that she only had a short time left to live. She passed into the Lord’s presence on April 23rd, just 79 days after her initial diagnosis. But the legacy this remarkable woman left her family in the following letter to her grandchildren will never be forgotten.

The Key to Unlocking God's Truth

The ability to memorize depends on its importance to us: sports fans remember statistics; students memorize information they think will be on an exam. How important is remembering God’s Word? I learned to memorize Scripture and continue today because of the power it unlocks in my faith journey.

No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends than memorizing Scripture! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your counselling will be in demand. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your faith will be solidified. Scripture memory gives you a firm grasp of the Word—and allows the Word to get a firm grasp of you! Don’t learn just isolated verses here and there. Bite off whole chunks of Scripture. That way you can get the flow of thought God had in mind.

The Devil Memorizes Scripture—Do You?

Recently, I communicated with a woman whose husband left her for another woman and subsequently filed for divorce. When she confronted him with Scripture regarding his adultery and divorce he countered by citing Scripture to justify his actions. He referred to the story of the woman caught in adultery, saying, “Jesus didn’t tell her to leave the relationship she was in,” even though Jesus clearly tells her to “go and sin no more.”

Do you ever wonder where all those old songs come from? You know, the ones that come out of nowhere when you’re driving the car. “My grandfather’s clock was too large for the shelf so it stood 90 years on the floor.” I must have learned that song in grade four. Or, “Climb, climb up sunshine mountain, heavenly breezes blow.” I learned that one when I was four or five years old in Sunday school.
