How to Stay Rooted in your Spiritual Garden (August 11 2009)

In June 2009, the term “how to,” was searched for 124,000,000 times worldwide. Words like, user guide, information, instruction manual, how to manual, instructions, owners manual and instructional manual also ranked high in searches.

People want to know how to find a job, how to dance, how to tattoo, how to golf, how to use a camera, how to…the list goes on infinitely.

It is no secret people are also desperately searching for the guide on how to live life to the fullest. What many don’t realize, however, is the best manual isn’t found in an Internet search but in the Bible.

The Bible is our gardening manual on how to grow as Christians

In the August 2009 LifeTrac article, Planted, Rochelle McAlister breaks down Matthew 13, the Parable of the Sower. She explains the analogy and offers tips to help growing Christians stay planted and continue to flourish.

Gardening is more than planting seeds just as growing in faith is more than being saved.

From a healthy garden comes an abundant harvest. Crops can be used any number of ways, depending on the plant. Aside from food, fruit and spices can be made into tea, hand salve is created from different flowers and shampoo can be mixed from herbs.

In order to have a healthy harvest soil needs to be prepared, insects and rodents driven off and seedlings nurtured. There are many steps affecting the amount a garden yields—preparing for the seasons ahead ensures bountiful crops year after year.

If we hope for a huge harvest in our own lives, shouldn’t we pay the same careful attention to our spiritual growth? In order to bear fruit, we must first have a healthy garden.
