Between university semesters, I was a summer camp counsellor. Each summer I took training to answer every tough question the kids threw at me.
Well, not every question.
How could God really create the world in seven days?
Will I see my grandma in heaven?
How many times can I be forgiven?
Quickly I learned the value of wisdom. Before camp, this word really meant nothing to me—it was something old people had, after a lifetime of learning. And, you know, that Solomon guy in the Bible.
Turns out God grants wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5-6).
After learning about wisdom, figuring out the perfect answers stopped being my goal. Instead of being stressed and stumped, I began praying for wisdom and the words in which to answer the questions I wasn’t so sure about. I found the Bible extremely valuable in this time.
The question the kids seemed to struggle the most with is: Can I lose my salvation? What if (insert variable) happens?
A lot of Christians have this question, not just kids. The idea of forever seems so abstract, it’s difficult to imagine having something forever that we can’t see or hold.
But it’s truth. In Chuck Swindoll’s booklet Saved Forever, he addresses this very question with solid answers straight from the Bible.
It may be hard to really believe once you accept Christ you can’t lose your salvation, but it’s true and it’s an even bigger testament to the grace of God further proof there is nothing we can do to earn our salvation.
It’s by God’s grace, through faith, that we have salvation.
All you have to do is believe.
