The Trinity and Salvation

You can easily zip through 1 Peter 1:2 and miss the Trinity in the work of salvation. Many Christians forget—or at least fail to appreciate—the fact that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work together in perfect harmony to secure our eternal destiny. One author writes, “Each person of the Godhead plays a distinct role: the Father chooses, the Son redeems, and the Spirit sanctifies.”¹

The Holy Spirit's Power and Presence in Times of Crisis

Are you going through a severe test? Maybe you have lost your appetite or you haven't slept well for weeks or months. Fear and panic have replaced quietness and peace. You experience loneliness, discouragement, and isolation, complicated by unending physical or emotional pain. You've prayed and asked others to pray as well. And still, there is no relief.

For many, there appears to be a problem with prayer. “It's a one-way conversation.” “It doesn't seem to work.” “God takes too long to answer.” “God does what He wants anyway.”

Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness—for then
The spirits of the dead who stood In life before thee are again
In death around thee—and their will
Shall overshadow thee: be still.¹

“We never intended to fall in love. We were just friends at the office,” the woman confessed through bitter tears. Her affair had finally come to light, and she and her devastated husband sat in their pastor's study, desperately trying to mend their shattered marriage.

The road was long. He was tired. His feet ached as he lifted his head and breathed in the fresh air that was all around him. Suddenly, the smell of rotting flesh cascaded into his nostrils. He opened his eyes and looked further down the road. The minute his eyes met them, they called out to him “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”

It's hard to believe another year has come and gone. Time waits for no man, and very few women, my father used to say. Like the new year, the wise men came after Christmas. They're not really part of the nativity set.
