Implications aside, not celebrating Christmas the same as my peers never bothered me and probably never will. It’s more of a season than a day and my festivities are centred around family, togetherness, and food—just not turkey.

The Protestant Reformation launched Christianity into a whole new era. The accomplishments of the Reformation made God and the Bible accessible to the world, where once this was reserved for the religious elite.

From the Reformation came the idea of tolerance. Rooted in the fact we all must choose for ourselves whom we serve, it never meant approving of wrong choices, only allowing personal choices to exist. We all must decide how we live and what we believe—we know the difference between right and wrong and make decisions daily based upon this knowledge.

Many words in the English language have more than one meaning. The way we choose to use the word infers certain emotions and ideas, which would be completely different if we changed the context.

One example is the word “lost.” We talk of being lost literally; of losing our direction; of not knowing where we are physically. But we also use it to mean something more abstract—losing our way in life.
